Afrobeats singer Mayorkun has explained why the loss of a friendship can be more painful than the end of a romantic relationship.
Speaking on the In My Opinion podcast, the singer, known for his hit song Let Me Know, said friendships often require deeper emotional investment because they are built on genuine affection and companionship rather than sexual attraction.
According to him, while romantic relationships may have a sexual component that helps bind partners together, friendships thrive primarily on a person’s genuine love and appreciation for another.
“Friendship breakups are harder than relationship breakups because you invest more into friendship,” he said.
Mayorkun added that, unlike romantic relationships, friendships offer little beyond companionship, making the emotional connection between friends particularly significant.
