President Bola Tinubu has urged state governments to judiciously utilise their increased revenues by prioritising projects that directly improve the living standards of Nigerians, particularly in healthcare and education.
The President made the call in a statement issued by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, following the release of the World Bank’s October 2026 Nigeria Development Update.
The report, titled Beyond the Federal Purse: How Higher Revenues Reshaped State Priorities, examined how increased government revenues have influenced spending priorities across the states.
President Tinubu described the report’s findings as evidence that his administration’s economic reforms were yielding results and positioning the economy for sustained growth.
He attributed the improvements in government revenue and economic stability to key policy decisions introduced since 2023, including the removal of the petrol subsidy, the unification of the foreign exchange market and measures to strengthen fiscal discipline.
The President urged state governments to channel their increased allocations and internally generated revenues into productive investments and essential public services that would deliver tangible benefits to citizens.
