Super Falcons interim manager Augustine Eguavoen says Nigeria have put their Women’s Africa Cup of Nations disappointment behind them and are now targeting gold at the 2028 Los Angeles Olympic Games.
Eguavoen stated this ahead of the team’s third-round qualifying fixture against Morocco, following Nigeria’s emphatic 5-0 victory over Comoros in the second leg at Ikenne on Tuesday.
The win secured a 7-0 aggregate triumph for the 10-time African champions and a place in the next round of the Olympic qualifiers.
Eguavoen said the team had collectively agreed to move beyond the WAFCON setback and focus on winning Olympic gold.
He expressed confidence in the quality and depth of the squad, acknowledging that tougher challenges lie ahead while insisting that the Super Falcons have the personnel and support needed to succeed.
The interim manager also praised the players for translating their hard work in training into an impressive performance against Comoros.
However, the victory was overshadowed by an injury to captain Rasheedat Ajibade, who was substituted in the first half following a heavy collision.
Eguavoen disclosed that Ajibade had been taken to the hospital for an MRI scan to determine the extent of the injury, expressing hope that it would not be serious.
He added that the team’s medical personnel would provide further updates on her condition.
