The National Pension Commission, PenCom, has introduced an automated system for calculating penalties against employers who delay remitting workers’ pension contributions.
The initiative is aimed at strengthening compliance with the Pension Reform Act and ensuring employers meet their obligations under the Contributory Pension Scheme.
Director-General of PenCom, Omolola Oloworaran, disclosed this at the 2026 Annual PenCom Media Conference in Abuja.
She explained that employers with outstanding pension penalties would be unable to obtain Pension Clearance Certificates until they settle their liabilities.
The restriction could affect their eligibility for government contracts and other business transactions requiring proof of pension compliance.
Oloworaran noted that despite existing legal provisions and regulatory interventions, some employers continued to withhold pension contributions or delay remittances.
She added that the commission had also extended pension compliance requirements to commercial relationships involving pension operators and their business partners.
