President Bola Tinubu has approved an 18-month extension of the tenures of the Controller-General of the Nigerian Correctional Service, Sylvester Ndidi Nwakuche, and the Comptroller-General of the Nigeria Immigration Service, Kemi Nanna Nandap.
The extension will keep Nwakuche in office until May 26, 2028, while Nandap’s tenure will run until June 30, 2028.
The approval was announced in a statement issued by the President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga.
According to the statement, the extension followed a recommendation by the Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, to address succession gaps in both services and allow their respective boards sufficient time to appoint successors.
President Tinubu commended the two service chiefs for the reforms recorded under their leadership and urged them to consolidate the gains.
Nwakuche was nominated by President Tinubu as Controller-General of the Nigerian Correctional Service in December 2024, and his appointment was confirmed by the Senate in March 2025.
Similarly, Nandap was nominated as Comptroller-General of the Nigeria Immigration Service on February 21, 2024, and confirmed by the Senate on March 1, 2024.
