Former Director-General of the Bureau of Public Service Reforms, Dr Goke Adegoroye, has called for sustained institutional reforms and effective public service governance to accelerate Nigeria’s national development.
Orange FM’s Otobot Jim reports that Dr. Adegoroye made the call while delivering a public lecture at Joseph Ayo Babalola University (JABU), Ikeji-Arakeji, Osun State.
The lecture, titled “Public Service Governance and Institutional Reforms: A Constant Imperative for Our National Development,” was part of activities marking the university’s 17th convocation ceremony and 20th anniversary.
Dr Adegoroye described an efficient public service as critical to national growth, noting that several challenges confronting Nigeria, including slow service delivery, corruption and bureaucratic bottlenecks, were rooted in weak institutions.
He stressed that institutional reforms were not a one-off exercise but a continuous process that required deliberate commitment, strong political will and protection from political interference.
The former director-general also advocated a reorientation of the civil service to make government institutions more responsive to citizens’ needs.
He congratulated the university on its 17th convocation and 20th anniversary, urging graduating students to see themselves as agents of renewal and contributors to national development.
Earlier, the Visitor and President of Christ Apostolic Church Nigeria and Overseas, Pastor Segun Oladele, said the university would continue to strengthen research, deepen productive partnerships and improve graduate employability.
He also paid tribute to the institution’s founding fathers, whose vision, he said, had become a reality.
The Vice-Chancellor, Professor Olaosebikan Fakolujo, described the university’s 20 years of existence as an opportunity not only for celebration but also for reflection and renewed commitment to its future.
Professor Fakolujo said JABU was established not merely to award degrees but to develop minds, shape character, advance knowledge and prepare graduates to address societal challenges.
