The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has uncovered a large-scale counterfeit alcoholic beverage operation at the Lagos International Trade Fair Complex, seizing products valued at more than ₦2 billion.
The agency said its Investigation and Enforcement Directorate carried out the raid following credible intelligence, uncovering more than 20 illegal stores allegedly used for counterfeiting and other unlawful activities.
NAFDAC disclosed that its officers found suspects blending counterfeit versions of popular alcoholic beverage brands, revalidating expired and unsafe drinks for resale, and stockpiling banned imported products.
Two suspects were apprehended during the operation, while the seized products, valued at over ₦2 billion, were evacuated.
The agency reiterated its commitment to tackling the production and distribution of counterfeit and unsafe alcoholic beverages to protect public health.
