The Chairman of the National Sports Commission, Shehu Dikko, has urged stakeholders in Nigerian basketball to set aside their differences and support the incoming leadership of the Nigeria Basketball Federation (NBBF).
Dikko made the appeal on Thursday during the federation’s elective congress at the Bola Ahmed Tinubu International Conference Centre in Abuja, where delegates gathered to elect a new board to succeed the administration of Musa Kida.
He described the election as an opportunity for stakeholders to overcome internal divisions and prioritise the growth and development of basketball in the country.
Dikko also stressed the need to maintain a strong relationship with the International Basketball Federation (FIBA) to advance the sport nationally.
The outgoing NBBF president, Musa Kida, thanked President Bola Tinubu, Dikko, the Director-General of the National Sports Commission, Bukola Olopade, and other stakeholders for their support during his eight-year tenure.
Kida described his time in office as challenging but fulfilling, expressing satisfaction with his contributions to the development of Nigerian basketball.
He also pledged to offer impartial support to whoever emerges as his successor, whenever such assistance is needed.
Attention now shifts to the incoming board and its plans to unite stakeholders, strengthen domestic competitions and establish a sustainable future for Nigerian basketball.
