Christian leaders in Ondo State have stressed the importance of prayer in the development of the nation, urging citizens to pray for leaders at all levels of government for the actualisation of a better Nigeria.

The call was made at the Ondo State Independence Day Prayer Summit, held on Thursday at St. David’s Cathedral, Akure, with the theme, “When Zion Travails – Birthing a New Nation.”

Government House Correspondent, Ebunoluwa Akinroyeje, reports that Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa led the call for prayers.

Governor Aiyedatiwa thanked the organisers of the summit for their commitment to achieving a greater Nigeria and urged citizens to continually pray for those in positions of authority.

The Governor also charged the Head of Service, Chief Segun Odusanya, and government officials responsible for preparing the state budget to consult people at the grassroots to ensure equitable distribution of the dividends of democracy.

In his address, the Chairman of the Christian Association of Nigeria, CAN, Ondo State, Reverend Father Anselm Ologunwa, said beyond government policies and programmes, citizens must pray for the nation to experience true independence and progress.

The Chairman of the Ondo State Christian Welfare Board, Pastor Peter Abimbola, who gave an overview of the programme, said it was pertinent for Nigerians to pray the prophecies concerning the nation into fruition.

In his keynote address, the Catholic Bishop of Ondo Diocese, Most Reverend, Dr. Jude Arogundade, appreciated Governor Aiyedatiwa for appointing Pastor Abimbola as Chairman of the Christian Welfare Board.

He encouraged both leaders and followers to remain steadfast in their commitment to building a better society.

Prayers were offered for the peace and prosperity of Ondo State, Governor Aiyedatiwa and Nigeria.

The prayer summit was attended by Christian and traditional leaders, top government functionaries and residents.
