Reactions have continued to trail President Bola Tinubu’s Independence Day address, with analysts and members of the public expressing divergent views on his declaration that Nigeria has moved beyond the painful phase of economic reforms and is now entering an era of prosperity.

In his address, President Tinubu outlined measures including increased agricultural production, mechanised farming, improved access to inputs, better transportation infrastructure and support for businesses as part of efforts to reduce the cost of living and create more opportunities for Nigerians.

The President said the painful phase of the economic reforms had largely been completed, with the country now positioned to move into an era of prosperity.

Reacting to the speech, Public Affairs Analyst, Lekan Olajobi, said the success of the reforms should be measured by their impact on the lives of Nigerians.

A religious leader, Pastor Bamisile Blessing, while reacting to the economic indicators highlighted in the President’s address, questioned whether the figures being presented are reflected in the realities being experienced by Nigerians.

Another respondent, Emmanuel Bola, said the President’s declaration that the difficult phase of the reforms is over should now be followed by visible signs of prosperity.

The respondents, however, agreed that for the economic reforms and promises outlined in the President’s address to translate into tangible improvements in the lives of Nigerians, political leaders must make deliberate efforts to ensure their effective implementation.
