A former President of the Christian Association of Nigeria, CAN, Reverend Samson Ayokunle, has urged President Bola Tinubu to take urgent and decisive measures to address hunger, insecurity and rising inflation in the country.
Ayokunle made the call while speaking with journalists on the sidelines of the 10th anniversary of the Oritamefa Baptist Model School Cambridge A’Level College in Yemetu, Ibadan North Local Government Area of Oyo State.
The cleric expressed concern over the growing economic hardship faced by Nigerians, urging the Federal Government to implement policies that would directly reduce the burden on citizens.
He said while the removal of the petrol subsidy might have been introduced as a policy measure, it had increased economic hardship in the absence of adequate measures to cushion its effects on Nigerians.
Ayokunle also called for determined leadership in tackling insecurity, particularly terrorism, banditry and other social vices, stressing the need for political leaders to confront the challenges decisively.
Speaking on the political future of Nigeria, the former CAN President expressed optimism that the country would overcome its current challenges.
He said political leaders must address insecurity with greater commitment, stressing that Nigerians would experience relief when those in positions of authority were no longer complicit in security challenges.
