The Federal Government has ruled out plans to increase electricity tariffs, urging Nigerians to disregard reports suggesting an imminent hike.
Minister of Power, Joseph Tegbe, gave the assurance in Ibadan, Oyo State, during the groundbreaking ceremony for five interconnected mini-grid projects expected to deliver 17.7 megawatts of electricity, supported by a 17.74-megawatt-hour battery storage system.
The projects are located in Bola, Jiboye, Molade-Adelubi, Ogo Oluwa and Sooko-Elega, serving communities across five local government areas.
Tegbe said the government was focused on improving power supply, strengthening the national grid and upgrading electricity generation and transmission infrastructure.
He added that the projects would expand electricity access, reduce dependence on generators and create opportunities for businesses and job creation.
The minister described the initiative as part of the Renewed Hope Agenda, noting that it was being implemented in collaboration with Paras Energy and Natural Resources Development Limited, the World Bank, Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company, the Oyo State Government and other stakeholders.
