The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in Ondo State has dismissed allegations of missing Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) in the state, describing the claims as misleading.

The Commission was reacting to a statement by the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) candidate for Akoko South-East/Akoko South-West Federal Constituency, Adeyeri Stephen, who called for an investigation into alleged missing PVCs in Iwaro-Oka, Akoko South-West Local Government Area.

INEC explained that, before the commencement of PVC collection and the display of the voters’ register on October 9, 2026, only cards belonging to applicants who requested transfers and those registered during the first phase of the Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise held between August and December 2025 were ready for collection.

It said PVCs for registrants in the second and third phases of the CVR exercise were not yet available.

The Commission stated that its records showed that the number of PVCs received for Polling Unit 12, Igbeyinadun Quarters, Registration Area/Ward 07, Oka VA Owalusin/Ayepe, in Akoko South-West Local Government Area, tallied with the number supplied by its national headquarters in Abuja.

INEC stressed that all cards received had been accounted for, noting that the appearance of registrants’ names from the three CVR phases in the collection register did not imply that their PVCs were missing.

It maintained that cards yet to be produced or delivered could not be classified as missing, adding that there was no basis for an investigation into an allegation unsupported by its records.

The Commission urged politicians, political parties, candidates and members of the public to verify information with its Ondo State Office before making public statements capable of creating unnecessary anxiety or undermining confidence in the electoral process.

INEC also announced that ward-level PVC collection ended on Thursday, October 15, 2026, while collection would continue from Friday, October 16, at its offices across the 18 local government areas of the state.

Registrants whose cards are ready were advised to collect them promptly, as the PVC remains the required means of voting.
