The Federal Government has released ₦38.93 billion to 166 public tertiary institutions across the country to address infrastructure deficits and improve teaching and learning facilities.
The intervention under the Needs Assessment Revitalisation Fund covers 79 universities, 46 polytechnics and 41 colleges of education.
Universities received the largest allocation of ₦28.5 billion, while polytechnics and colleges of education will receive ₦5.8 billion and ₦4.7 billion, respectively.
The Federal Ministry of Finance disclosed this in a statement by its Head of Media, Efe Ovuakporie, noting that the funds would support approved projects and address critical institutional needs.
According to the ministry, the release forms part of the Federal Government’s efforts to tackle longstanding infrastructure challenges in public tertiary institutions and support the implementation of agreements reached with the Academic Staff Union of Universities.
It added that the funds would enable beneficiary institutions to commence or continue approved projects aimed at improving infrastructure, strengthening institutional capacity and creating better learning conditions.
The ministry stressed the need for effective collaboration among the Federal Ministries of Finance and Education and the beneficiary institutions to ensure proper utilisation of the funds and measurable improvements in the quality of tertiary education.
