FG EMPOWERS OVER 300 ONDO RESIDENTS WITH SOLAR SYSTEMS, CLEAN COOKING STOVES
The Federal Government has extended its clean energy empowerment programme to more than 300 vulnerable residents of Ondo State through the distribution of locally manufactured cooking stoves and home solar systems.
The intervention, organised by the National Agency for Science and Engineering Infrastructure, NASENI, under its Sustainable Empowerment Programme, took place at the Dr Olusegun Mimiko Event Centre in Akure.
Beneficiaries were drawn from the three senatorial districts of the state.
NASENI said the initiative was designed to translate research and technological innovations into practical solutions that improve livelihoods, promote healthier cooking practices and expand access to affordable energy.
Speaking at the event, Minister of Youth Development, Ayodele Olawande, said the programme aligns with President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, particularly its focus on economic empowerment and the promotion of locally manufactured products.
He explained that the clean cooking stoves would reduce the dependence of households on firewood, particularly easing the burden on women and children who spend considerable time gathering fuel for domestic use.
The Minister added that the solar systems would provide alternative electricity for households, enable students to study after daylight hours and support small businesses.
Beyond the distribution of the equipment, beneficiaries are also expected to receive stipends to strengthen their micro-businesses and make the intervention sustainable.
Olawande further announced that the Nigeria Youth Academy would be launched on November 9, with grants ranging from five million to 20 million naira for innovation and entrepreneurship.
He described the Akure intervention as part of broader efforts to place young people at the centre of national economic development.
Also speaking, NASENI Chief Executive, Khalil Halilu, said the agency had lined up additional empowerment programmes, assuring that it would sustain its collaboration with the Ministry of Youth Development to develop indigenous technologies, create employment opportunities and address community needs.
