Ademola Lookman ended his season-long goal drought to inspire Atletico Madrid to a 2-0 victory over Manchester United in the UEFA Champions League.
The Nigerian forward came off the bench to score in the 79th minute, converting a rebound after Manchester United goalkeeper Senne Lammens parried Jonathan David’s initial effort.
Atletico had taken the lead in the opening minute when Pablo Barrios finished off a move initiated by Alex Baena, who raced past Diogo Dalot before setting up his teammate.
Manchester United’s hopes of a comeback suffered another setback when Leny Yoro was sent off for a foul on substitute Jonathan David as the last defender.
The victory highlighted Lookman’s impact off the bench, with the forward providing the decisive second goal to secure the win for Diego Simeone’s side.
Meanwhile, another Nigerian international, Victor Osimhen, endured a difficult outing as Galatasaray suffered a 4-1 defeat to Barcelona in another Champions League fixture.
