2027 ELECTIONS: BISHOP AROGUNDADE URGES PEACE, TRANSPARENCY AND CREDIBLE POLLS

The Catholic Bishop of Ondo Diocese, Most Reverend Jude Arogundade, has called on Nigerians to embrace peace, unity and transparency as the country prepares for the 2027 general elections.

He made the call during an interface with Orange FM in Akure, where he emphasised the need for peaceful conduct and credibility throughout the electoral process.

Bishop Arogundade urged political leaders, political parties, electoral officials and other stakeholders to demonstrate maturity and uphold democratic principles before, during and after the elections.

He noted that peaceful elections and credible electoral processes were essential to strengthening democracy and promoting national development.

The cleric also called on the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to improve its performance and ensure greater transparency in the forthcoming elections to restore public trust and confidence in the electoral system.

He cautioned Nigerians against political violence, hate speech, intimidation and other actions capable of threatening national peace and unity.

Bishop Arogundade stressed that elections should provide citizens with the opportunity to freely express their choices, while urging relevant authorities to guarantee a fair, transparent and credible process.

He further encouraged eligible voters to participate actively in the elections and discharge their civic responsibilities peacefully.
