The Ondo State Government has introduced official jackets for revenue and ticket collectors to curb extortion, eliminate illegal levies and protect commercial motorcycle and tricycle operators from harassment.
The initiative, which takes effect in November, will help riders identify authorised collectors, prevent revenue leakages and promote orderly ticket collection across the state.
The Special Adviser to Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa on Special Duties and Strategy, Oluwafemi Fadairo, announced this during an interactive session with commercial transport operators in Akure.
Fadairo said the measure followed complaints of intimidation and illegal charges by ticket collectors, warning that anyone issuing tickets without government authorisation would face legal consequences.
He stressed that the approved daily ticket fee of five hundred naira was sufficient, adding that no individual or group had the right to impose additional levies on operators.
The governor’s aide urged riders to refuse illegal payments and report anyone demanding unauthorised charges, assuring them that the government would investigate complaints and take appropriate action.
Fadairo also distributed free fuel to more than one thousand commercial motorcyclists as a temporary measure to ease their financial burden and support their welfare.
Earlier, the Akure South Coordinator and General Chairman of commercial motorcycle and Keke Maruwa coordinators in the state, Adesina Adekanmi, appealed to the government to ensure that ticket collectors performed their duties appropriately and stopped harassing operators.
Similarly, the State Maruwa Coordinator, Kenneth Isaku, welcomed the engagement, expressing hope that it would resolve disputes over ticket and emblem collections between operators in Akure North and Akure South.
He said the government’s intervention would improve coordination among operators and establish a more orderly revenue collection system across the state.
