POPE LEO XIV BEGINS LATIN AMERICA TOUR AFTER LUNG CANCER SURGERY

Vatican officials say no special medical arrangements beyond the usual support are required for the trip, as the Pope has made a good recovery and has been cleared by his medical team to travel.

Last month, surgeons removed the lower lobe of his right lung after medical examinations detected a cancerous growth. Subsequent tests confirmed that the cancer was localised, with no further cancer treatment considered necessary.

Speaking ahead of the journey, Vatican officials said the Pope had maintained good stamina and was enthusiastic about the trip, whose schedule he personally approved.

The visit is expected to strengthen the Catholic Church’s ties with communities across the three countries and provide an opportunity for the Pope to reconnect with places where he spent significant years of his ministry.
